Kyle LeDuc and CJ Greaves keep team's perfect record alive atop the podium in 2021
Beating Monster Energy’s fleet of Pro 4 drivers in Championship Off-Road remains an impossible task for the rest of the field after six rounds of action in 2021. The latest event saw the series return to ERX Motor Park on Friday and Saturday, and after each swept one of the first two doubleheaders of the year, Kyle LeDuc and CJ Greaves split the victories in the third event going into the season’s halfway mark.
Friday’s intense battle saw both LeDuc and Greaves fight their way from the back to the front, in a race that saw the entire top half of the field covered by a blanket. Greaves would establish himself in the top spot until Lap 12, where LeDuc eventually made the winning move as the duo tried alternating lines. The win marked LeDuc’s third in a row after a sweep of the Crandon Brush Run last month.
But Greaves wouldn’t be denied a victory on the weekend in the premier truck division. After briefly peeking out to the top spot early in Saturday’s race, he’d have to bide his time for 10 laps before finally seizing control of the top spot again with two to go. Behind him, LeDuc would climb into podium position from midfield, and the Friday winner would overcome an over-rotation in the hairpin with a rapid pace to steal second place on the final lap.
Greaves and LeDuc remain first and second in the standings at 295 and 284, while fellow Monster driver Johnny Greaves sits in fourth after picking up another top five finish of his own over the weekend. CJ Greaves also regained the Pro Stock SXS points lead over the weekend thanks to another win and second place finish in that class; he remains a perfect 12-for-12 on podium finishes across the two classes.
Monster Energy’s Championship Off-Road athletes will kick off the second half of the 2021 season at Dirt City Motorplex on July 31-August 1. Dirt City’s COR debut last year was another favorable one for the team, as CJ Greaves swept both Pro Stock SXS races and split the Pro 4 victories with LeDuc there in 2020, and Johnny Greaves added two podium finishes as Monster athletes locked out the top three on Sunday.
