Landen De Sousa Dias Wins 2022 BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 Youth 1000 Race

Landen De Sousa Dias took the checkered flag in Saturday’s Youth 1000 race from the 2022 BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400, scoring a victory of more than a minute over Ryan Bedoya after completing five laps of the youth course with a time of 34:24.303. De Sousa Dias was elevated to the winning position after a seven-minute penalty to Jedi Jack Mamelli for multiple unintentional course cuts.
Competing on their own devoted race course, the five youth divisions and 50 entries making up the “Mini Mint 400” competed in three separate races. In both the 570 and 170 classes, the Open and production entries shared the track, before giving way to the 1000s. The 1000 and 570 classes took on five laps each on the larger youth course, with the 170s taking on 16 laps of their own smaller course.

The Mint 400 has held the title of the toughest, most spectacular off-road race in North America since 1968 when it was first run. Initially, the race was a public relations event promoting the Mint Hotel’s annual deer hunt, but what started out as a hotel promotion soon grew into a legitimate desert race. Since its 2008 revival, “The Great American Off-Road Race” has only gotten bigger and more prestigious, and deeper fields every year only make it tougher to win.
