The second season of Great American Shortcourse competition sees the west coast’s top short course series return to San Bernadino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, California for its first of three events in 2022. Tickets are on sale now for the two day event, with single-day adult passes available for $20 and weekend passes for $35, and main events kicking off for each class at noon PT on both Saturday and Sunday.
While last year was very much a rebuilding year for short course racing on the west coast after the dissolution of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, it didn’t keep some of LOORRS’ former top classes from producing some exciting title battles. Trey Gibbs beat Trevor Briska by just two points for the Pro Buggy championship, while Christopher Polvoorde’s consistency proved just too much to overcome for Madix Bailey in Pro Lite. Dave Mason Jr. (Pro 2), Chance Haugen (UTV Turbo), and Dallas Nord (UTV Production 1000) also counted themselves among last year’s inaugural GAS champions.
The 2022 season will kick off with 13 race sessions scheduled among 17 classes in Victorville, starting with the Youth 1000 and RZR 170 divisions and wrapping up with the Pro Buggy, Pro Lite, and Pro 2 classes at the end of the day. Mini Stock, Mini Open, and Class 11 will serve as one of the combined races, with Limited and 1600 Buggy and Production Turbo and Unlimited UTV serving as the other combined sessions, although each class will be scored separately.
Bailey and Haugen were among the handful of drivers to sweep their classes here last spring, while Mason and Trevor Leighton split Pro 2, Briska and Matt Brister won the Pro Buggy races, and Nord and Braden Chiaramonte took the P1000 trophies.
Live streaming of Great American Shortcourse action from SBC Fairgrounds will be available throughout the weekend at https://www.greatamericanshortcourse.com/live. Following this weekend, the GAS season will continue on May 14-15 with the first of two events at Glen Helen Raceway.
