ENSENADA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO- For the first time ever Baja Rallywill add a 2-day "marathon stage" to the upcoming Six Day BAJA RALLY Powered By RALLY COMP September 26 - October 2. In addition to the newly-branded 6th day of rally raid stage racing, the marathon stage planned for 2021 offers more challenge and allure for adventurers competitors seeking to conquer North America's longest rally race.
In the midst of six days of racing, competitors will need to muster two full days of long-distance, cross country rally racing without spare tires or any outside support from their teams or mechanics. The route will lead racers to a remote location on the first leg where they will have access to essential food, shelter and safety resources for the overnight stay. The day prior to departing Cataviña on the outbound leg, each racer will be issued a 27 gallon, plastic storage container (Ie: racer box) to pack tools, consumables, snacks and spare parts as well a fresh change of clothes, goggles, etc. The organization handles the transporting service of the racer boxes to and from the marathon bivouac.
On the inbound leg, competitors will have the challenge of nursing their motorcycle and UTV's all the way back to Cataviña knowing the they can only receive assistance from other racers in the field of competitors.
"The marathon stage has been a long time coming for Baja Rally," explained rally founder and chairman Scotty B, "we have the mapping set up and infrastructure to make it work in the middle of the six days as we take the rally to a new destination while giving the support teams a rest day back in Cataviña. After more than a year on pandemic lockdown, this is exactly what the doctor ordered."
